Isaac Buck

This runner is one of two, commissioned by a client in San Francisco and residing in adjoining hallways in a “railroad car” style flat in a lovely Victorian. The floorcloths measure 2' 3" x 10' 3" and 2' 3" x 11' 8". The interior design is based on floor patterns found in The Isaac Buck House in Hanover, Massachusetts, circa 1800. The border pattern is from the historic Elihu Emerson House in Norwich, Vermont - this pattern was painted above the fireplace mantel.

Although the patterns are historic, the off-set overlay of the interlocking circle pattern creates the illusion of depth and the juxtaposition of the patterns and color use creates a very modern look.
